WELL, WELL, WELL...

What do WE have HERE A modern-day interpretation of the riverboat experience Sure, it's just a little odd seeing American heritage presented by a brand with Nordic ties, but one thing is certain:
Viking is rated among the best overall in the cruise industry This includes ocean, European river, and expedition markets.
This vessel stayed docked overnight, so it seems - giving passengers time to enjoy excursions highlighting the sights, sounds, and flavors of The STL.
For the sake of comparison, she dwarfs the Gateway Riverboat Cruises vessel passing by on approach to her berth nearby after cruising the north riverfront area.
St. Louis' iconic excursion vessel, the ss Admiral (1940-1978), was comparable in size to the Viking Mississippi. Though Admiral was only 374 feet in length; her beam (width) was an impressive 92 feet across. Admiral might have been a little taller in the water as well.
Viking Mississippi stretches 450 feet in length with a beam of only 78 feet. According to multiple sources, the ships original length was about 430 feet until the vessel was spliced and a 21 foot section was inserted. This work was completed to improve the ship's performance and reduce vibration.
Though the Admiral is long gone, there is still plenty to see and do in The Lou! A leisurely sailing on The Mighty Mississippi (the river this time, LoLz) is a relaxing and immersive way to enjoy this city and many other locales along the way.
