Flight Time: It's Deeper Than Choosing Cheaper
Updated: 6 days ago
Just to be clear, there is no commission in booking flights in and of themselves, so there’s no profit motive when it comes to helping people with just booking flights.
Where generous commissions are made is in booking vacation packages with flights, stays, rental cars, transfers, and activities through vendors, such as Apple Leisure Group (Apple, Funjet, United Vacations), Expedia TAAP, and tour groups. Smaller commissions can be made as a direct affiliate of Expedia Partners, and Booking.com Group.
The story of why airlines stopped paying commissions on airline tickets is tied to:
Deregulation of the airline industry by the government
The convenience of the internet and the push toward self-booking
But not making commission on flight is no excuse for leaving people in the cold when their plans only involve flights. It’s still necessary to assist people and educate them about what goes on behind the scenes on with the airlines and fares and the routings and hubs and alliances.
One client will be on his way to Seattle with a couple of friends. A friend, leaving from Chicago, gave him the low-down on a cheap airfare. So he called to verify some information, but he was unaware of some of the caveats that go along with the “cheap airfares” that entice travelers.
